Supported the design team during the Design Development phase by refining the original concept through iterative design options, renderings, and graphic explorations. I assisted in resolving design questions and contributed to the successful progression of the project into the early Construction Documentation phase.
The Kiley is an eight‑story residential development in Washington, D.C.’s Southwest Waterfront that introduces 315 units, extensive amenities, and below‑grade parking while thoughtfully responding to its Modernist surroundings. Positioned across from the historic Capitol Park Towers, the building draws inspiration from the site’s Mid‑century architectural language, incorporating a 600‑foot‑long precast concrete façade organized into six rhythmic segments with recessed balconies and panel details that reference the original
terra cotta screens. The design integrates replicated concrete vaulted canopies at the base and introduces a transparent bridge canopy to strengthen the connection to the iconic courtyard landscape by Dan Kiley. Refined through a comprehensive design review process, the project employs streamlined massing, a restrained material palette, and a landscape strategy that complements the historic context while establishing a contemporary residential presence within the evolving neighborhood.
